1. Introduction and Settling into a Comfortable Position

To start, find a peaceful location where you can settle in comfortably for the next fifteen minutes. This could be in your bedroom, living room, or perhaps even a serene spot outdoors that you love. Having a quiet and relaxing space is essential to this meditative process.
Once you’ve found your space, sit in a position that feels comfortable for you. Whether you choose to be seated on a cushion, a chair, or lying down, each is equally effective and allowed. This session is for you and should be tailored to your comfort.
Setting Your Position
While setting into your chosen position, strive to maintain good posture. Erect your spine and rest your hands on your knees, or any other position where they feel relaxed. Having a straight, yet relaxed, posture allows easy flow of energy and assists in enhancing the focus.
Your Feet
- If you are seated, have your feet solidly grounded on the floor. If lying down, have them resting, comfortably spaced apart.
- Bring your attention to your feet. Feel them touching the ground. Breathe in, and as you breathe out, sink your feet deeper into the earth.
- Concentrate on the sensation, warmth and weight of your feet. As you do, imagine all tension and stress flowing down from your body, out through your feet.
Your Legs
- Move your focus to your legs. If seated, feel your legs on the chair. If lying down, sense the contact they make with the surface behind them.
- Breathe in deeply and, as you breathe out, allow your legs to become heavy and comfortable. Let them sink into the chair or onto the bed more deeply.
Your Hands
- Shift your attention to your hands. Feel their weight in your lap or on your knees. Notice their temperature, the texture of any fabric beneath them, their points of contact.
- As you breathe in and breathe out, imagine tension leaving your body through your hands, leaving them feeling light and relaxed.
Your Spine
- Now, bring your attention to your spine. With each in-breath, sense it elongating. With each out-breath, allow any tension within it to melt away.
- Your spine is your core. Visualize it aligning, creating a seamless conduit for your breathing.
Your Shoulders and Neck
- Draw your focus now to your shoulder and neck area. As you breathe in, pull in fresh energy. On the out breath, visualize tension melting away.
- If you feel any residual tension, gently move your neck from side to side, or roll your shoulders back and forward. This will help release any stagnated energy in these areas. Do this gently and comfortably.
Take a few more moments now to scan through each part of your body once again. If any area still holds tension, direct your breath towards it. With each exhale, imagine the pressure leaving the body.
Once you are settled, bring your attention back to the room. Notice the sounds around you, the temperature, the smell, the feel of the cloth beneath your fingers.
You are now ready to begin.
This preparedness is the key to a successful meditation session. Embrace your readiness and the intention of ultimate relaxation you have set for the next fifteen minutes. Remember, meditation is a journey through self-awareness and relaxation. Be patient with yourself and remember, your journey is unique to you. Enjoy every moment of it. Take a deep breath in, and begin your meditative journey.
Let’s start.
