Releasing Stress and Enhancing Concentration: A Meditation Journey for Kids

Welcome to our calming journey. Before we begin our adventure, make sure you find a quiet and comfortable place where you won’t be disturbed. You can sit on a chair, lie on your bed, or even sit cross-legged on the ground, whichever you find most comfortable.
STEP ONE: Take slow, deep breaths
Step one, start by closing your eyes gently and taking a deep breath in through your nose and out through your mouth. Feel your lungs fill up with air and your chest fall as you release that air. Continue this slow, deep breathing pattern throughout our journey.
STEP TWO: Visualise a comfortable place
Now, let’s travel to a place where you feel safe and comfortable. This might be your bedroom, a treehouse, a beach, or anywhere else that is special to you. Imagine yourself arriving in this place, noticing the colours, smells, sounds and how it feels under your feet.
STEP THREE: Encounter with a friendly animal
In your special place, imagine there is a friendly animal waiting to meet you. What kind of animal is it? A fluffy bunny, a gentle deer, or maybe a colourful parrot? Know that this animal is here to help you with your stress and concentration.
STEP FOUR: Share your stresses with your animal friend
In your mind, share with this animal the things that have been worrying you or causing you stress. As you tell the animal, visualise each worry flying away from you, reducing your stress.
STEP FIVE: Soaking up courage and focus
The animal now gives you something: a glowing ball of courage and focus. You reach out and hold it in your hands, feeling the warmth. Slowly, the glowing light blends into your body, flowing to every part of you, refreshing your energy and enhancing your focus.
STEP SIX: Thank the animal and return
Once you’ve taken some time to feel this new energy filling your body, thank your animal friend and say good-bye for now but remember, you can return whenever you need.
STEP SEVEN: Bring your awareness back to the present
Slowly bring your awareness back to where you are sitting. Remember you are safe and strong and capable. Feel the weight of your body, and slowly open your eyes, feeling calm and focused.
You did a magnificent job today, allowing yourself to release stress and enhance your concentration. Now you are ready to face the rest of your day, with a calm and focussed mind. You can create wonderful things and make a positive impact. Remember, you can return to this meditation journey whenever you feel stressed or when you need a boost of concentration. Well done!
